Minutes of the Conservation meeting of 2013-05-20 at 19:30 in the Stocks

[The last amendment to these minutes was on 2013-06-16.

As usual, numbers (and letters) in square brackets refer to new, (and standing) items in the corresponding Agenda]

[a] Chair: Keith Fish (KF) chaired the meeting, in Ian Deans and Roger Tordoff’s absence.

[b] Attendance: Steven Wilson (SW), Joyce Wright (JW) and Gary Weatherall (GW), all Sheffield City Councillors attended the meeting. Mr. Daren Ward of Ecclesfield Parish Council could not come to this meeting, but hopes to come to the next. ID and RT sent apologies, but the meeting was well attended, both by regular members and by people with a special interest in the Players Lounge. A total of 36 people currently receive emailed agendas and minutes.

Ongoing matters, or "things still to be done"

[z] Next meeting. The next meeting of the Ecclesfield Conservation and Local History Group will be on Monday June 17th. at 7:30 [Since moved to The Black Bull ].

[1] KF, as chair welcomed our guests, and explained that although the Group was primarily a “history group”, we were happy to devote the first part of the meeting to the problems surrounding the Players Lounge.

Councillor GW explained that both himself and JW would listen carefully to what was said, however it was best that they did not comment, since they were both on the Planning Committee, and therefore had to decide on the Players Lounge application for change of use.

KF introduced summarised the problems affecting the club. [Some of these were detailed in our minutes of 2013-03-18, and in our subsequent planning application objection, so because of shortage of time, I will not list the problems here]

However, one new issue was thought particularly important and urgent, which was the effect of the recent decisions of Sheffield City Council Licensing Sub-committee. Although it had been extremely difficult for ourselves or other interested parties to get any information as to what had been decided, verbal information seemed to indicate that it would cease to be a members club and become a drinking establishment. However, the planning committee was scheduled to decide the case the on Tuesday ! In view of this, PB suggested that there should be an adjournment of the planning decision to give time for interested parties to adjust their comments. [the Planning Committee did subsequently adjourn their decision, and any members wishing to make further comments can still do so using the links on our web site conservation.ecclesfieldgroups.com JP].

[2, 3] JP pointed out that we were to get a new mobile phone mast on Yew Lane, but otherwise, none of the planning applications in the Agenda were commented upon.

[4] [There is now a consultation on Council’s Local Plan, so I have put this on June’s agenda - JP]

[5] JP and RT had attended the Ecclesfield Parish Archiving Meeting on 25h April. JP described the problems of guaranteeing the future of the Ecclesfield Village Archive by backing it up. He suggested that the ideal holder of such a backup would be the Parish Council. There were no objections to this, and PB suggested that we could give the Council or the library a set of CDs. [ The Parish Council has now made an upload facility available, which should allow us to do this and possibly solve a lot of other problems. We are just waiting for a password to enable us to check it out. ]

[6] The Ecclesfield Park Community Garden Open Day (now moved to 14th July) was discussed. Some members, including PB and MM did not expect to be available for the event, however PB did say that he would make sure a gazebo was available.

[7] The Ecclesfield Gala on 1st September was also mentioned, and an appeal for members to make themselves available to help on the day. [MM has said She will be working elsewhere, and ID has said that he would be away, but could probably provide copies of leaflets].

[8] The boundary markers were mentioned, with KF saying that he had received a promise of funding of £350 towards a planter, and £200 for the group to spend as it liked, from St. Mary’s Trust. KF thought that Morningside cattery on Chapeltown Road might like to sponsor and look after such a planter. Yew lane, and Wheel lane were suggested as possible locations for other planters.

[9] No comments were made about the constitution, so this was put back to the next meeting, at which ID would be present.
